Ok, since dropping off the raw bus I have been MISERABLE!
To be relatively clean about it all, I haven't completely healed since the baby was born and hard stools make it just as bad as it was in the weeks following her birth. I attribute it mostly to the "re-tox" I've been going through. I had no idea how big a difference raw would really make until now. And I'm SICK of hurting. My stomach hurts all day; I'm gassy beyond belief; and I'm BLOATED. So I have to find a happy medium in all of this mess. So, a word of wisdom to all who are thinking about seriously trying Raw sometime, be ready to make the change pretty permanent.
Interesting factoid: Brewer's Yeast (commonly believed to help increase a mother's milk supply)has 100 calories per 2 Tablespoon serving, plus about 4g of dietary fiber and 15g of protein! If I was worried about getting enough calories on a mostly raw diet, I needn't be. There are so many supplements out there that are easily added to a smoothie. Granted, most of them aren't raw, or aren't completely organic, but they make me feel better about them than, say, Oreos and pasteurized milk.
In other news, my dog swallowed half a corncob whole today.
His new name is Corn Cob.
Tomorrow I go back to my real job. This should be interesting; I've only been out of the office for three months. I should have babies more often! (Hahaha, JK!)

Day 14.
Ok, so I totally jumped off of the bus (this weekend was our anniversary and I was having a really rough time with the milk situation...) and I have been PAYING FOR IT BIG TIME.
Either way, I'm back on the wagon and tomorrow will be back to, hopefully, 100% raw.
And I'm no longer weighing every day. I'm off the scale for another week and then it will be weekly from here on out. I bought a pair of Lucky Jeans that fit, but not perfectly, so I have to get back on track.
And I'm just gonna suck it up and pay more attention, more time to getting enough calories. :-)

Day 9 - Not too bad! About 75% raw!
Okay, so I had two bananas, cashews, a pink lady apple and a green apple before lunch. Lunch was half a cucumber and 3 olives (which are REALLY starting to grow on me, btw). I had a nectarine on the way home and then for dinner, I ate some zucchini "pasta" with "peanut sauce." Actually, it was called.... Pad Thai with Kelp Noodles, only I substituted zucchini strips for the noodles since I haven't been able to find kelp noodles ANYWHERE but online and they are relatively expensive online. So next time I'm in Virginia Beach (or if I can get my mom on the phone!) I'll stop up at the Asian Market on Great Neck Road. Until then, I'll suck it up. Anyways, I had some alfredo pasta as well, and a couple glasses of milk with some of those damn cookies.
The Pad Thai was very strange. The recipe called for 1/4 cup of lemon juice, which I'll reduce next time, and 1/2 cup of coconut oil, which can also probably be reduced. Although the consistency was perfect, so maybe not. It was just a little bit sour and not exactly something I'd make again (although thanks to my good friend, December, I've adopted the "try it twice" mentality) if it weren't for the fact I'm missing Kelp noodles.
It was easier for me to focus today, though still not great. Maybe the material we were using was more difficult than last week, but I feel as though I've hit a road block and I'm not super excited about it. Hopefully this weekend will give me the opportunity to relax and take it easy, refresh and I can go back to class next week good to go.
And finally, I weighed in this morning at 186.4. So I'm neither gaining nor losing and that's okay with me. I figure I gained (gasp!) closer to 55 lbs when I was preggo and I'm already back down almost 30. So I'm doing alright. With Lisa here, I can go to the library to study or go the to gym to PT (which I think I may do tomorrow!). So until tomorrow, all.
Oh, PS. I love ke$ha....

Day 8 - Today was better. I guess.
I'm starting to get a little bit down on myself. Or maybe just a little bit down in general. I think it's just my brain playing tricks on me, but I feel like my milk supply is decreasing. I don't know if it's because of the sharp decrease in calories, the types of food, or some other factor, but I just feel like I should be making so much MORE than I am.
So I had yogurt and raw sunflower seeds with a few carob chips for breakfast. A nectarine and a banana as snacks. Half a cucumber for lunch and then some microwave mac'n'cheese. Then I had some raw cashews, and about 5 macaroons (I was seriously craving the sweets today and bored-eating tonight. I had a salad for dinner which was good, but something in the greens was really bitter. I will try my hardest to be "good" tomorrow. Eating the yogurt threw me off in class all day, and the mac'n'cheese made my stomach hurt; it sat like a ROCK. I didn't realize how much my mood had changed last week; I was up all week until today, and I attribute all of that to the cooked food from this weekend and today.
Anyways, I guess there is good news to share! I dropped 7 pounds in my first week. Even with cheating all weekend, I still didn't gain any of the lost weight back. My weight goal is not necessarily to lose at this point (though surely that part is very nice) but not to gain. My original food goal was 75% raw, 25% cooked, so I think I'm going to go back to that. That's 75% of my calorie from raw foods, not 75% of the total food input. I'm going to skip the yogurt and do raw all day, then maybe supplement a raw dinner with some kind of cooked food; maybe a fish or some bread. something dense in calories that won't take up too much room in my tummy.
Baby Girl is upstairs crying it out. I laid with her for thirty minutes and she still didn't go to sleep. I have things that need doing, so hopefully she'll go to sleep and when I go up, I'll sneak into bed and she will be far away in dreamland. Anyway, I have to run off and catch up on the homework I've been slacking off with and maybe have a banana or something to top off my bored stomach. :-P

Day 7 - Tomorrow will be better, I promise! (to myself, at least)
So today was another one of those days. Lol
I had a green smoothie for breakfast with Spinach, Banana, the rest of the icky Sam's Club strawberries and some pineapple. It was okay as long as it was cold, otherwise it had the texture of already-eaten food, if you catch my drift. Next time I'll add less water.
For lunch it was avocado with tomato and a bit of sea salt and half of a cucumber with some salt. And about 5 bites of spaghetti >.< Then two oreo-type cookies.
Then dinner was "Tomato and Terragon Bisque." I wasn't impressed. I think the tomatoes I bought weren't quite ripe enough. We will try that recipe again later with better tomatoes.
And four more cookies. >.< So, yeah.
But I went shopping and bought some good stuff for this week. I'm hoping to introduce my step-mom to the Raw thing. She suffers from headaches and fibromyalgia, so maybeshe could benefit from it!
I estimate my daily intake to be around 2,000. the pasta was only about 100 calories and the cookies... well, do I have to think about it? Probably around 600. :-(
So, until tomorrow friends! Poka!

Day 6 - Turned out about 50/50...
6 cooked, approx. 2 oz. pieces of lamb @ 723 calories (WOW!!!)
I feel like the rest of the day's calories don't even merit mentioning after that!
I'm going to guess my caloric intake for today, including the Robek's smoothie I had, somewhere around 2,300 or so. I had a fruity breakfast and a couple of bananas (and I'm now eating a "Raw*Revolution" Bar. This one is actually pretty good.
Well, as of 0500 this morning (before Greek food in downtown B-more), I thought that I was already finding myself neutral towards meat, rice, and other cooked foods. There are a few smells (toasting bread, pasta sauce, tuna salad...) that make me hungry. It seems that eating this way has already helped change my tastes a little bit. And I hope that after this month is up, I don't feel compelled to revert to the SAD (standard American Diet). I weighed myself [well] before dawn this morning only to find my weight back up by a pound. But I am not disheartened! There are so many factors that can cause a small spike in weight and the overall goal is not (despite my going on and on about it) weight-loss, but an overall sense of well-being, health, energy, and happy lifestyle.
I did not end up making any macaroons or almond flour or banana milk, but I will try very hard to get those done tomorrow. I'll need an inexpensive raw treat for this week after class and macaroons and fruit with "cream" will be yummy. Sean and I ended up going to Borders for their going-out-of-business sale and Babies'R'Us for a white noise machine, and didn't get home until almost 7! So, now I'm blogging (see also: getting nothing done whatsoever) and DD is sleeping and DH is sleeping and I hope to put DD down in her crib and crawl into bed next to my sleeping man. We shall see.
Until tomorrow, all! Take a day "off" and enjoy life!

Day 5- Down 7 lbs in the last four days!!
So. I started this on Monday morning at 193. This morning, I weighed in at 186.3!
Here's today's food:
2 Granny Smiths @200c
3 Bananas @ 275c
58g cashews @ 321c
3 Nectarines @186c
Corn (114g) @ 98c
Sunflower seeds (39g) @ 189c
Raw candy bar @ 180c
Onion (16g) @ 7c
Mixed Greens (43g) @ 10c
Carrot (86g) @ 35c
Spinach (24g) @ 6c
Dressing @ ~150c
For a grand total of: At least 1,657 calories.
I also had a bunch of cherries, unmeasured, and an undetermined amount of some kind of melon that strongly resembled canteloupe (but was not, in fact, canteloupe!), so I'm sure I'm probably closer to 1,850 calories for today.
Natural Market: So, I went to Trader Joe's yesterday just to see what they have and to see if they carried coconut oil (which I didn't find), raw almond meal (which they might have had; the meal didn't specifically say "raw") and a few other things. They have so far the cheapest raw almonds and decently-priced produce. Today I stopped at the Natural Market on 175 (I guess it might be Dave's or David's, but I didn't even look!) and their selection of raw stuff was by far the best! I was able to find raw "candy bars," which I'll post a link for either later in this entry or in a later one. I also purchased nutritional yeast, which is apparently not raw? but still an often-used item. Also, I noticed they had the cheapest organic Pink-Lady Apples. Yay! The people who worked there were very friendly and helpful, even if the manager/owner was a bit stand-offish.
New Foods: I discovered raw sunflower seeds, which are quite boring but quite meaty and a TON of fabulous recipes at www.fromsadtoraw.com and goneraw.com. OH! And last night, I had some sweet corn, raw! And it was fantastic! I definitely recommend trying it! Apparently there are even recipes for creamed corn (which is basically just corn and corn) that looked awesome!
And tonight, I added cherries to my salad. They were very tasty with the onions and I was very pleasantly surprised. Tomorrow, I'm going to get a haircut. Hopefully it will resemble my bootcamp/Monterey hairstyle and it will be another motivating factor in this whole thing. Fat me looks terrible with short hair >.< We are also *hopefully* going to stop at Soft and Cozy Baby to get a few more cloth wipes (which I love, btw) and then this place called "Book-Thing" where they give away books. Link is (or will be shortly) linked here on my blog! And finally, I plan to make Almond Flour, Banana milk, and raw macaroons! I'll let you know how it goes! And I might even post pictures!!
I may or may not actually post tomorrow since I'm going to be doing so much, but I'll still have to count my caloric intake, so maybe expect at least that much!
Alrighty, well, enough for tonight. Sleep well, fellow bloggers and non-bloggers!

Day 3 - So far, so good!
1 Granny Smiths @170 cal
2 Pink ladies @ 160 cal
3 Bananas @ 275 cal
108g cashews @ 592 cal
1 Avocado @ 216 cal
Cherry tomatoes @ 26 cal
Garlic @ <1 cal
Strawberries @ 83 cal
256g Broccoli (one head of broccoli, minus most of the stem) @ 87c
1srv dressing @ 150c (yeah, still the stuff that might be cooked!)
Grand Total of: 1760
Time Investment - Eating! So, dinner seems to be the hardest meal to figure out, prepare, and eat. Probably because by the end of the day I'm getting bored (all I do now is hang out with my two-month old, lol), I can't really do anything (my arms are full of beautiful, distracting baby girl!) and I'm tired. So tonight I'm eating broccoli. A whole head. Haha. And I'm eating it with some of the Italian Dressing because I very strongly dislike raw veggies. Before this, I only ever ate them with rich, fatty, creamy (delicious!) ranch dressing. I also chose the broccoli because it's rich in fiber and filling. Luckily, I haven't noticed a need for any extra fiber despite the amount of bananas I've been eating but I figure I might as well eat it. It took very little prep time and it will be a good, satisfying meal. But it's taking forever for me to eat!
Cravings: I was seriously craving something "bready" after work today (I won't even mention how much I wanted those M&Ms), so I had another banana (yum!) and that seemed to do okay in eliminating my desire for bready yummy-ness. However, in my search for a raw split-pea soup recipe, I came across this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM and I no longer wanted anything sweet or chocolatey. I'm starting to look at those things (soda, candy, cookies, even bread) like you would maybe look at sky-diving if you weren't into that kind of thing. Like, maybe it would be fun, but you could DIE from it (I'm not sayin' bread will kill you) but not partaking wouldn't hurt you at all. I walk by the M&Ms, want one for as long as I see the brightly colored treats, and then they're out of my mind as soon as I sit back down in class. Thank goodness. Hopefully I will go long enough without those things that when and if I do start back up on cooked food, I won't even want them then. *crosses fingers*
Side note: The presentation I linked up there makes me never ever ever want to give my baby juice. I knew it was bad (pure sugar) but I never knew exactly how bad! And then I feel all kinds of betrayed by my government. And I take back everything I ever said about planting my own garden. And as soon as Little One grows up a bit and I find the time to sweep daily, we will pot some plants. :-)
Ok, so not a whole lot else to say except that the fatigue is killing me. After I get home, I take a quick catnap (30 minutes or so) with E and then I'm pretty good to go. But by now, 9:00pm, I'm ready for bed again. So, hopefully that will get better. I hope its a detox symptom and not something I'm doing wrong. Also, I resumed taking psyllium husks (a comment made by a friend of mine about bananas spooked me so I'm trying to make sure I get enough, though the need has not presented itself.
Oh, and finally! I lost 2 more lbs from yesterday morning to today! So I'm at -5lbs for the week. -5 lbs for two days! And I am not starving! And I'm not grumpy or needy and so far, my milk is still coming in as normal. Thank goodness! So, that's it for today! Til tomorrow!

So, I did pretty well today!
Five Guys and Other Cravings: This afternoon around 4:00, all I could think about was Five Guys and their burgers so I thought about it. I seriously thought about it. After all, on my Goal List here at home, it does say 75% Raw... so I considered it. And then I looked up the amount of calories in a little cheeseburger. 550 calories. That would have topped off my calorie "allotment" for the day. Also my fat and sodium and bleck. So I didn't go get Five Guys. Well, WE didn't go. Sean was all about it; and then I showed him the calories. The burger he usually gets (bacon cheeseburge) had 990 calories in it! I had a monster salad instead. Also, Around 10:00am, I felt like I needed some freakin' chocolate. But I didn't cave to that one either. I'm proud!
Detox Symptoms: Headache! I had a really bad headache after I got home from work and I know I wasn't dehydrated because I'd been drinking water all morning. Other than that, nothing too noticeable. I was very fatigued in the early afternoon, but I think I'll attribute that to a very BORING Russian movie, not the food.
Dinner: For dinner I ate a monstrous salad. It consisted of about 130g of greens, plus carrots, onions, cherry tomatoes and Italian salad dressing. It was huge. I used one of our IKEA mixing bowls to make it in and eat it out of. By the end, I was so sick of it that I actually had to spit out the last bite. I ended up leaving probably three normal-sized fork-fulls in the bottom of the bowl. I gave it to Penny. :-) I did use the Whole Foods Italian Dressing. I figure, we have it, Sean's not eating it, we shouldn't toss it out. How cooked can it be? And how bad can it be to use 2 tbs? Other than that, though, today was 100% raw. Even if it was a bit boring.
Time Investment: Ok, so tonight dinner took almost 30 minutes to prepare. As I get better, more efficient at weighing stuff, I'll be faster, I'm sure, but it felt like I put Elena down for her evening nap, made dinner and she was already awake again! Breakfast is quick; all I have to do is grab apples, bananas, plums, cashews (pre-weighed the night before) and head out the door. It makes it easier to choose when you only have a few things to pick from.
And my milk was green at lunchtime, but not at dinnertime. But it did look richer, more fatty. I'll contribute that to the fact that Elena had eaten not too much earlier, so it was probably mostly hind-milk. >.<
I think it would be easier if I had a better-stocked "raw kitchen" and less processed/conventional food in the house. Cheese still looks awesome, and we have some "sweet crunch" bread in the pantry. It looks good.
And it may be my imagination, but as hubby was leaving tonight I thought he smelled like meat. Maybe I will start to smell like veggies. Or maybe even dirt!
OH! Also!
Yesterday when I weighed myself I was up to (God it hurts me to even say it let alone post it on the internet for EVERYONE to see, but I want this is be an accurate record and maybe even someday I can write a book and get famous!)...
Okay, I was at 193.6!!! Holy effing COW! I spent all weekend eating whatever I wanted, including 7 cupcakes. So yeah... fatyy over here!
But good news, because when I weighed myself again this morning, I was at 190.3 which meansI was down 3.3lbs. I've had such spikes in my weight before, but I'm going to attribute part of it the diet because that's just so much cooler than saying "O, it must've been water weight," which was always the explanation before!

Day 1 - I made it! 100% RAW!
Breakfast and snacks:
2 granny smith apples @ 323c
1 pink lady apple @ 80c
3 bananas @ 210c
57g cashews @ 315c
1/2 serving Flax Snacks @ 90c
2 plums @ 67c
4 macaroons @ 280c
mango @ 86c
Dinner:
avocado @ 216c
cherry tomatos @ 55c
Late-night snack: Super ripe and super yummy nectarine. I didn't count the calories- too lazy.
Plus an unknown amount of cherries (maybe a handful)
Grand Total: 1,722 calories (+ or - whatever the calorie content of the cherries was)
I don't think I'm done eating for tonight, but I'll add whatever extra calories I consume. I feel the rumblings of an empty tummy. Maybe I'll have another banana or some more nuts.
Self Control: Today was totally easy. I walked by a bowl of M&Ms about 10 times today with no problem and watched my husband cook some yummy taco leftovers and rice dinner. It smelled awesome, but I didn't really want any. My only rough patch today was after work when I came home craving sweets. Like a cookie, or pancake, or ice cream, but mostly just something sweet and bready. Oh, and got sick of apples. I had three before noon. >.<
Hunger vs. Boredom: I'm starting to try to pay attention to when I'm actually hungry (after breakfast and before lunch) and when I'm bored (when I come home and want to hang out with hubby). And I'm trying to tune in to my body instead of eating at specific times.
Working Out: We've been doing our own little workout routine which consists mostly of push-ups, flutter kicks, swimmers, curl-ups (I can't even do a sit-up properly right now..), and a run around the block. The running is easier than I thought it would be. The small block we have been doing is only .4mi, and I feel like it's not challenging enough. Tomorrow is our day off, but on Wednesday, we will lengthen it. We might even double it. My hubby has been so awesome, helping me work out. He even assists my push-ups which enables me to do three- or four- times as many as I would be able to on my own.
Attitude: Today I was in a generally good mood, if a little bit tired during class. Nothing out of the ordinary to report.
Breast Milk: Okay, the weirdest (any maybe coolest) part of today. My breastmilk (I'm exclusively nursing my two-month old daughter) was yellow- almost GREEN- today. When compared with the milk from Friday, it is markedly different. I think it's pretty cool, actually, how fast that was affected.
Detox Effects? I have nothing to report here as of yet, but I'm fully expecting my body to revolt in some way. Others have reported mood-swings, terrible breath, inability to sleep and other things, in their first week or two of the raw diet (or any kind of detox for that matter). I expect to have headaches, too, while my body readjusts to no caffeine and no processed food.
Awesome Recipes: While looking for new recipes, namely for a raw ice cream >.< I found a TON of recipes that look not only delicious, but look like they will help me find new stores (to find hard-to-find items like coconut butter) and try new foods. Today was the first time I had both raw cashews and raw almonds. I must admit the almonds... not so yummy. But the cashews! Perfect snack. And delicious!
Shopping List: My shopping list for next week is growing and growing. I also discovered raw macaroons! And they are simply amazing. I had 4 (where I should have had two (okay, so I should have had one), but they were so good I couldn't help myself. See above, "Self Control."
Price: This diet can be expensive. The snacks are in no way cheap and even produce (when you buy organic) can be so expensive as to be painful We went to Sam's Club though, for my first week, to be sure I can do it, and my overall fruit bill was only $62. And we bought a TON of fruit. The specialty items (like almond flour) are very expensive ($12.29 for a 16oz. bag) but I have yet to purchase and use any of those types of things, so I really can't comment on the price just yet.
Getting Enough Calories: Last night, I was actually a little bit worried about getting enough calories. Greens and other vegetables are not very calorie-dense (note the cherry tomatos) but the fruit seemed to be sufficient for today. The nuts had 300 calories or more and the avocado was good too. All I need to do now is improve my protein intake. I think I ended up with around 42g of protein, which is only about half of what I need. I'm not worried about vitamins because I'm still taking the prenatal supplement and I'm not concerned about the calcium or vitamin C because of the sheer amount of fruit I'll be consuming. Potassium was more than covered by the bananas and nuts.
So, all in all, it was a good day. I'm curious to see where it will go from here. I hope to see an improvement in my energy level, skin, and mental clarity. Others have even reported feelings of euphoria! So we will see where it goes from here. And also, what color my milk is tomorrow. I'm tempted to try lots of different-colored food to kind of play with it a little. >.<
Shame on me.
